In the heart of San Francisco’s East Bay, El Cerrito ("the little hill”) is a much-loved local community, and a hidden gem for those who are new to the area. Here you can be among or surrounded by tree-lined hills, with views of the San Francisco Bay, and still be just minutes from the shoreline. El Cerrito’s many neighborhood shopping areas offer a convenient small town feel, with all you need a short distance from home.

A housing boom in El Cerrito in the late 1940s and 1950s created our reputation for beautiful midcentury homes. But in areas like Poinsett Park you’ll also find some gorgeous, well-designed and constructed 1920s and 1930s homes. Closer to BART and commercial areas, you can also find newly built condominiums and townhouses, perfect for commuters and those who enjoy life without a car.

El Cerrito has been home to several bay area legends and has a rich musical history, including the birthplace of John Fogerty and the famous rock band Creedence Clearwater Revival, and classic American roots music label Arhoolie Records.

Outdoor activities are all around, from hiking trails to golfing at the nearby Berkeley Country Club. Even if you don’t play at their 18-hole golf course, the main hall of the country club has been host to community events for more than 100 years, and provides breathtaking panoramic views of the Bay Area Bridge. Hikers love Hillside Natural Area with over 100 acres of open grasslands, and great places to unwind. More amazing views you at the beloved Point Isabel Dog Park, where humans and their pets can play and interact with friends.

Within a mile of Poinsett Park you’ll find both the El Cerrito Del Norte BART station (the northernmost station in El Cerrito), and easy access to highway 80 from Barrett Avenue. Bike and walking trails along the Ohlone Greenway flow alongside and under the BART tracks, all the way down to Berkeley. A little farther south you’ll find the El Cerrito Plaza BART station, and the shopping center of the same name. These two BART stations make travel to and from
San Francisco and the Oakland airport quick and easy.

Shopping and restaurants are asbundant in El Cerrito. Neighbors come from other communities to enjoy the amazing Pastime Ace Hardware store and beautifully restored 1920s Rialto Theater, both on the San Pablo Avenue corridor.
